Broken for you |
by Gina Dalfonzo |
Every once in a while, people try to convince me that no one is really treating Obama like a messiah -- that it's all just hyperbole coming from his opponents.
Something tells me that these people aren't paying attention.

Y'know, G, I'm learning to take a second and third look at the titles you choose.
This latest of yours points out that Obama hasn't been broken at all - quite the contrary. It would be an enormous stretch to claim otherwise. And in fact, no human "messiah" ever gets broken the way the real one did, because mere humans don't resurrect to lead their followers.
Thanks for always providing more food for thought than it appears at first glance.

So I guess the artist was right. "D'Antuono insists that this piece is a mirror; reflecting the personal opinions and emotions of the viewer; that "The Truth" like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." I guess all Gina saw was another opportunity to slam the other side...

. . . And you in turn saw an opportunity to slam ours. :-)
The truth is, some things are just plain slam-worthy. But let's take a break from slamming for a moment, and let me ask you: What do you see in the painting? I won't slam your answer, I promise. I may want to debate it, but I won't slam it.

What I see is a chilling reminder of "thou shalt have no other gods before Me." I fear for the artist who created this piece of blasphemy, and for those who will look at it and not see the danger.

Heh.. irony is alive and kicking.
"The 30" x 54" acrylic painting on canvas depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross; atop his head, a crown of thorns. Behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. But is he revealing or concealing and is he being crucified or glorified?
D'Antuono insists that this piece is a mirror; reflecting the personal opinions and emotions of the viewer; that "The Truth" like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. D'Antuono expects that individual interpretations will vary as widely as they do in the political arena."
The whole point of the piece is to emphasize how different people think about Obama - and how people think people think about Obama.

So, Ben, how come you and Andy (a.k.a. "Mr. Hit-and-run", lately) didn't weigh in similarly on this one? http://thepoint.breakpoint.org/2009/02/of-chimps-and-men.html

I don't think I had much to say. And, since then, we've gotten into a bit of a discussion on the "worship" of Obama, where this is more relevant..
And I did agree with Gina, despite her teasing questions at the end with such obvious implied answers :p. And Jason also makes good points.
'"The genetic difference between men and apes is only three percent." says one astronaut, "But that three percent gave us Einstein, Mozart..."
To which another astronaut adds: "and Jack the Ripper."'

I'm not sure how it's quite so ambiguous. Jesus was both crucified and glorified. It's not an either/or. Why the crown of thorns on Obama's head? Can anyone interpret that as being something other than a Christ reference?

I am glad I made good points but I don't remember commenting here.

Sorry about the hit-and-run. Work, classes, family, stuff like that. I see there's more on this topic today at the top. What the artist said...I'm with that.
