That John Brown article is annoying. If he had succeeded what would have happened would be a few months of atrocities until the Federal government could gather sufficient force. Then there would have been a few more months of atrocities until the revolt was suppressed. Slavery would have been more entrenched then ever. And for several generations everytime someone suggested abolition, the reply would have been "John Brown."
As for "choose between your hide and your soul" that is a typical saying of a heartless revolutionary who is more concerned with abstractions then those whom they are to benefit.
Justice delayed may be justice denied. But sometimes justice overhasty is simply more injustice.
