Simply Beautiful! |

There's a new form of eco-tourism, traveling to places in the world where lights are limited so you can see the real night sky. Check out this photo of one such place in New Zealand. Thankfully, I grew up in the country at a time when such sights were common. I miss them, and am just about ready to sign up for one of these tours.
Wow, it reminds me of Van Gogh's starry night.

Bring it home to where you live. The simplest and best thing an urban area can do about light pollution is to install reflectors on streetlights, directing the light down and out, where it is needed, instead of wasting half of the electricity and sky by beaming it out into space.
Just mandate that that is how lights will be replaced when they burn out. There will be enhanced illumination, darker skies, and savings.

Diane, thanks for posting that. I can't even imagine.
In 1970 something, I was at Crater Lake in Oregon and was astonished at the starry sky. But it wasn't like the pic you posted.
