Wow -- the Germans Really Do Drive Fast

In an odd tip o' the hat to LeeQuod, Dave the Swede now plans to speak only in the third person when he emerges from his burrow.

Dave the Swede is also a Germanophile. You don't need to understand German to appreciate this video from Die Welt newspaper (Hamburg). The Deutschen really do put the pedal to the metal.

Oh, the Christian worldview point: Don't fly your car through the air and land on a church's roof.

(You may get a little German ad before the news video.)

I know a little German...
He's sitting over there.

(hehehe. I always think of that line from the movie with Val Kilmer, "Top Secret!")

LeeQuod will gratefully accept third person, if it means DtS will emerge more frequently.

Und Ach! Mine ekzperienze mit Chermany vould indicate that the church was probably empty when the car hit it - since churches there are empty prettymuch all the time. Had this been a sports arena, the results could have been truly tragic. But I'm sure Christopher Hitchens would seize on this as more evidence that being in a church can be hazardous to one's health.

Years ago I was a bigtime fan of the band Emerson, Lake and Palmer, so I was quite distressed when Kraftwerk copied their format. But "Autobahn" is a catchy tune - just not all 22 minutes of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobahn_(song) Still, I wonder what was playing on this person's car stereo as they went flying through the air...

Gina Dalfonzo

Possibly the "Dukes of Hazzard" theme? :-)

Rolley Hazzard

No, no, no. They were listening to an oldies station. The song was, "Get me to the church on time."

And the congregation had just sung, "Swing low, sweet chariot."

Shortly after the incident, one of the communicants was quoted as saying, "Sei vorsichtig, wass fur sie fragen wollen." ("Be careful what you ask for.")

Just kidding. Want to know the real story? The driver was speeding along at mach 3 when suddenly a wack-a-mole emerged from its burrow in the middle of the fast lane. Incredibly, the mole survived. In fact, he was last seen running off yelling, “Ach du lieber! Herr Colson wird ein Kuh haben als er gelernen wollen wie ich Manner zum Kirchen wegen gemacht.”*

(*Oh dear! Mr. Colson will have a cow when he learns my new strategy for increasing church attendance).

Guess the driver didn’t know what was meant when, right before the unexpected off-ramp, Gabriel yelled, “PUT THE HAMMER DOWN!”

LeeQuod

Well, that's what I get for giving Rolley the opportunity to pun with "And they were all in one Accord" instead of doing it myself. Sigh.

Reminds me of another Minnesotan, who used to sign off on Prairie Home Companion with the pen name "Emmanuel Transmission".

Wow. That "wumps."
