From the St. Nicholas Center website: "Without a dowry, a woman was unlikely to marry. This poor man's daughters, without dowries, were therefore destined to be sold into slavery. Mysteriously, on three different occasions, a bag of gold appeared in their home-providing the needed dowries."

I hadn't thought of International Justice Mission ( http://thepoint.breakpoint.org/2008/12/justice-without.html ) as a modern-day St. Nicholas until today. Thank you, Mark (et. al.)!
