Prayers for Victims

Please remember to pray today for the families of those killed at the terrible shooting at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church on Sunday. Pray also for the many children who were performing in a play that day and had to witness such horrible violence.

Thank you for posting this Catherine. For those of you who live or work near the Prison Fellowship Ministries' Lansdowne headquarters (and can't make it to Catherine's program in D.C.), there will be a prayer vigil tonight at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sterling. Here is the announcement:

"The Unitarian Universalists of Sterling will hold a prayer vigil on Monday evening, July 28, at 7:00 to mourn the tragic injuries and loss of life at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church. The public is invited.

The pastor of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, Rev. Chris Buice, preached at UUSterling on April 13, 2008 as a guest minister. He is the step-brother of a member of UUS."

Thank you for alerting me of this bit of news I hadn't heard.

There's a bit in the article that confuses me and is never elaborated upon, "The FBI is investigating the shooting, in which seven others were injured, in case there were civil-rights violations, Owen said."

Civil-rights violations??

From the Guardian article:

"An FBI official said federal law enforcement officials were investigating whether to prosecute Adkisson for forcibly preventing the free expression of worship, a federal civil rights violation."
