There's a version of "Cinderella" in which the stepsisters cut off their toes to try to make the glass slipper fit. That version always used to freak me out but good. Nonetheless, those old storytellers knew a little something about human nature.
(Speaking of the Oscars, I just figured out this morning that Daniel Day-Lewis is the son of the man who beat out C. S. Lewis for the professorship of poetry at Oxford in 1951. Small world!)
Not to mention the fact that he married Arthur Miller's daughter. Talk about 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.
