Meet Irena Sendler |
by Jason Bruce |
Many may be unfamiliar with Irena Sendler, but this 97-year-old Polish woman lived an extraordinary life by saving more than 3,000 Jewish children by smuggling them out of the Warsaw Ghetto to safe hiding places and to the homes of non-Jewish adoptive parents. Her amazing life and remarkable deed remained unnoticed for many years until in 2000, when four young students of Uniontown High School in rural Kansas discovered her story. In 2003 Irena received Poland's highest civilian decoration, the Order of the White Eagle, and was awarded the Commanders Cross by the Israeli Institute.
Sadly, Irena got bumped by Al Gore for winning this year’s Nobel Peace Prize (please help me move on! :).
I am grieved that rude, hypocritical Mr. Gore is rewarded with high honors he does not deserve for a flawed and media -mogel flaunted theory. It has cheapened the awards and dishonored other recipients.
