John Derbyshire called himself and Theodore Dalrymple "reluctant atheists" defined as someone who wishes they could belief but can't. It sounds like a sad place and in some ways I admire it for they belief themselves to be sacrificing happiness for honesty about belief. In some ways an honest atheist is better then a hypocritical Christian, and as long as someone is determined to search for truth he will eventually find it.
