Danny Saunders fron The Chosen might do for a day at the beach although theology and Hassidic culture are odd topics for the beach and I probably wouldn't care for Freud.

Merry Brandybuck might do. I think I liked him best, and he was a good conversationalist. Besides he comes from a Hobbit clan that isn't afraid of water.

Sharif Ali from Lawrence of Arabia might be interesting, but just to scary.

Sostratos from Turtletaub's "Over the Wine Dark Sea" would be quite interesting to talk to and besides he knows something about the sea even if he was only the purser to the Aphrodite.

Johnathan Quayle Higgins from Magnum would be great being highly cultured and knowledgeable. He would be quite glad to finally have someone willing to hear his stories of his adventures in the Prince of Wales Own West Yorkshire Regiment.

Actually of all those I think Higgins would be best.
