Perhaps these films have failed to connect with audiences because audiences do not appreciate being told -- twice, as they are in LIONS FOR LAMBS -- that this is one of the "five worst times in history to be an American."
In fact, judging by the reaction of the crowd, and the judges, after an American Idol contestant sang "God Bless the USA," audiences connect more to Lee Greenwood's song than the premise these films are trying to sell.
